From Agatha-awarding winning author Maddie Day comes the latest novel in her Cozy Capers Book Group Mystery series set in a picturesque Cape Cod town, where resourceful bike-shop owner Mackenzie "Mac" Almeida" tackles a cold case with the help of her fellow book club sleuths—a treat for fans of fresh, clever, cozy mysteries and those who love Lorna Barrett's Booktown series.

ʼTis the day after Christmas, following a wicked-busy time of year for Mac's bike shop. It's just as well her Cozy Capers Book Group's new pick is a nerve-soothing coloring book mystery, especially when she has last-minute wedding planning to do. But all pre-wedding jitters fade into the background when Mac and her fiancé, Tim, begin a cottage renovation project and open up a wall to find a skeleton—sitting on a stool, dressed in an old-fashioned bridal gown . . .

As Mac delves into the decades-old mystery with the help of librarian Flo and her book group, she discovers a story of star-crossed lovers and feuding families worthy of the bard himself. Yet this tale has a modern-day villain still lurking in Mac's quaint seaside town, ready to make this a murderous New Year's Eve . . .

A home improvement project goes ghoulishly wrong for a soon-to-be-wed couple. With their New Year's Eve nuptials less than a week away, bike shop owner Mackenzie "Mac" Almeida and baker Tim Brunelle are working feverishly to complete the renovation of Tim's tiny cottage in the Cape Cod community of Westham. But as carefully as Tim measured the storage space the couple hoped to incorporate into a master bath, his calculations left room for a nasty surprise: On breaking through the connecting wall, they discover a skeleton in a walled-off section of what was supposed to become their ensuite facilities. They're even more shocked to see that the long-departed captive is dressed in a wedding gown and handcuffed to the wall. Viewing the remains of a bride who never got to see her wedding day awakens a strange sense of kinship in Mackenzie, who adds "solve a murder" to her pre-nuptial to-do list. So in between preparing to entertain her large and diverse family, picking out floral arrangements, and taking her dress for a final fitting, she finds time to watch as forensic history intern Winslow Swift examines the bride's remains and the contents of a small travel bag found by her side. In the bag are clothes for a warm-weather vacation and a passport identifying the victim as Della Louise Ruhlen, who disappeared in 1940, shortly after announcing her intention of marrying fisherman Manny Cabral. The locals had long believed that the couple had simply eloped. Mac and Tim's discovery proves otherwise, and the new narrative of thwarted love has consequences for a whole generation of Westhamians. Day infuses a very cold case with present-day urgency.
