Caregiving is a fact of life for millions, more a matter of "when" and not "if." Kanter, who has a PhD in gerontology, is passionate about caregivers finding the resources they need so that people can appreciate their time together. In this title, she explains how those who take care of older loved ones can turn obligation into opportunity, create deeper bonds, and reconnect to what matters. Caregivers will find an increased sense of purpose by employing positive psychology, lifestyle medicine, meditation, and mindfulness. By extending grace to others and to oneself, it is possible to create a healthy path to resilience, balance, and coping; becoming present and aware leads to savoring this special time. Simple, practical suggestions, as well as ideas on how to reframe the caregiving relationship, ease instances of burnout. Spending time reminiscing helps both participants find meaning. Consciously choosing gratitude, empathy, love, awe, and forgiveness can help counteract negative aspects. Finally, the author offers useful suggestions for building social, physical, and mental supports. VERDICT The focus is on caring for older individuals and does not include medical guidance or advice for working with any disabilities. Kanter's emphasis on creating a positive lens for this special relationship is refreshing.--Gloria Drake
